VFX & A like

In this project, I undertook the challenge of incorporating advanced visual effects techniques to achieve the illusion of a friend disappearing. This endeavor served as a significant learning curve, pushing the boundaries of my proficiency in Blender and After Effects, particularly in mastering alphas and layering for seamless integration.

The project not only delved into the technical intricacies of post-production but also offered valuable insights into the complexities of effective filmmaking. Managing the seamless disappearance of a subject demanded meticulous planning and execution, enhancing my appreciation for the nuanced artistry involved in the filmmaking process.

This undertaking exemplifies my commitment to continuous professional development, blending technical proficiency with creative vision to deliver compelling visual narratives.

In this After Effects experiment, I explored the realm of 3D design within the software, taking a fresh and unconventional approach to learning its capabilities. This hands-on project aimed to push the boundaries and enhance my proficiency by utilizing After Effects in new and innovative ways.

Animation & storytelling

For a  second-year assignment at HKU, I delved into the world of 2D frame-by-frame animation. Within a tight 30-minute timeframe, I embraced the challenge of bringing a transformation to life through traditional art. The strokes of my pen unfolded a visual metamorphosis, capturing the essence of fleeting moments and the raw energy of spontaneous creation. This exercise not only honed my animation skills but also taught me the power of storytelling within the constraints of time, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved through the artful dance of hand-drawn frames.

In my first-year exploration of 2D animation, I created a brief but evocative sequence depicting a boy. Drawing inspiration from childhood fears of the unseen, I crafted this narrative using hand-drawn pencil lines. The deliberate choice of a black background and white lines  intensified the eerie ambiance, capturing the haunting essence of the monsters that lurk in our young imaginations.

In this fast-paced school project, I embraced the challenge of creating animations on a tight schedule, weaving quick and quirky stories through the magic of light and movement. This  project was a race against time, resulting in a lively creation that blended storytelling and dynamic lighting. While they may not be masterpieces, these experiences showcased my ability to whip up fun and engaging animations under the school project hustle.

In a departure from my usual 3D digital creations, I  took inspiration from a bar illustrated with paper that I encountered on social media. For a study assignment, I translated my design skills into a tangible paper set. This hands-on project not only added depth to my creations but also prompted a fresh perspective on spatial design, bridging the gap between the digital and physical realms. It was a delightful exploration of texture, craftsmanship, and the unexpected beauty that emerges when we step outside our digital comfort zones.

During my animation assignment at Howest, we were tasked with a unique challenge: creating an animation using our own reference footage. I embarked on a dual role, both director and actor, as I shot personalized reference material to inform my animation. This hands-on approach not only enriched the creative process but also allowed me to infuse authenticity into the movement and expressions of the characters. The fusion of live-action reference and animation became a dynamic exploration, bridging the gap between the real and the animated world.

The task was to meticulously analyze an old movie and recreate a scene through animation. This project not only honed my skills in interpreting visual storytelling nuances but also allowed me to pay homage to the timeless techniques employed by cinematic pioneers. As I delved into the frames of the past, I unearthed new perspectives on animation, enriching my craft and deepening my appreciation for the enduring influence of vintage storytelling on contemporary digital artistry.
